Test Drives

The Review
Immense power in a very comfortable SUV. GLE does it all! Almost!!!
I couldn't wait to test drive this car. Having had the C63s in the past, I was expecting this to be the perfect petrol heads family car. It didn't disappoint in almost any way. From the moment the salesman started it, I was ready to drive it. On the road, this car really is immense. It just goes and goes and sounds like thunder whilst doing it! Driving around it was a nice place to be. The driving position is good, although not as car like as I generally like. Although this is a proper sized SUV, so I can forgive the seating position.
This car is fast, very fast. Its also sharp on the throttle. Press and go. As easy as that. This is an easy car to drive, given how much power you have under your right foot. Driving fast was still pretty good all around. Given its a 2 plus tonne car, you only feel a little some of that as you throw it around the roundabouts and you always have enough power to correct yourself when ever you get in trouble. BUT, that sound is the making and breaking of some things. Its loud and sounds gritty, which is awesome, however, there doesn't seem to be a sneak home at 3am mode that I could find, so no chance of travelling unnoticed anywhere. Turn the car on again and that all goes away again :)
This car looks tough. Its big, bulky and in your face and you just have to smile when you see it in the flesh. Big air intakes at the front and dark grey body with black interior. Nappa leather as you would expect and loads of leather around the cockpit. The black alloys just add to the mean and monstrous looks and they complement the car so well. All around this car looks great.
The GLE 63S I drove was pretty much fully loaded. from massaging seats, rear TVs, on screen lumar support, 360 cameras, upgraded sound system, the list just went on and on. You can really go to town on the spec list for this car, but to be honest, once you hit the start button and the car thunders to life, non of that other stuff matters.
For anyone that wants a big, beefy, monstrous SUV with tons of space, power and sound, this is right on the money. But your just need to remember that this is exactly what you are getting! Long live the V8 engine...I hope.
